BLOODFIRE SYNDROME:

It was briefly mentioned in Into the Decay, but I felt I should expand upon it. Bloodfire Syndrome is a birth defect very rarely found in kuvis. It occurs if a fetal kuvi is exposed to poison; while the kuvi mother is immune to almost all forms of poison and venom, the baby is not and has its growth stunted. Obvious indications are the shorter size, smaller wings and blood-red scalp quills. A positive side effect, however, is increased density of the prososium skeletal reinforcement and claws, allowing the kuvi to channel far more divine energy and utilizing much more dangerous magical attacks.

DIVINE MAGIC:

All sorts of magic exist, but the system primarily utilized by creatures of destruction like kuvis is Divine Magic. This magic is powered by a minute piece of the corresponding god of destruction in the user's heart; this divine piece is capable of generating infinite amounts of energy and is only limited by the user's ability to channel it. It's best to think of the divine piece as a power plant and the internal channel, such as the prososium skeletal reinforcement, as the wiring.

Divine magic takes many forms. Kuvis exclusively use it in elemental magic that gives them to control and/or create any of the five elements: Fire, Water, Wood, Metal and Earth. Divine magic is also what powers their flight, allowing them to generate solid energy constructs in the shape of skeletal bird wings to fly. Despite the cover of the book, they are not bat wings. The wings are red as that is the color the divine magic kuvis use takes on.

PROSOSIUM METAL:

Prososium is a dark-gray to black fictional metal depending on its density. It is indestructible and capable of channeling divine energy, allowing the person with the metal to use magical abilities related to the god from which the energy is pulled. It only channels energy specific to that particular divine presence and provides incredible resistance to foreign magic, whether divine or not.

It is far denser and far heavier than other metals, so dense and heavy that it cannot naturally exist. The divine presence in the user's heart is what sustains the metal and keeps it from degrading. A single kuvi claw, for example, can weigh hundreds of pound; Aleksei's claws weigh three-hundred fifty pounds each.

The only thing capable of withstanding prososium is equally-dense prososium. Internal prososium, such as that which reinforces kuvi skeletons, is much lighter than external prososium, such as kuvi claws.
