Aleksei dal Kafteros, translated literally as Soul-Guardian of Burning, is a seventeen-year-old kuvi. He has spent most of his life living in the swampland of the Decay, but is not until he meets Daina that his true fate is set in motion. He is unusually small for a kuvi, caused by being born with Bloodfire Syndrome, which is where his quill color comes from.

Aleksei is very loyal and hot-headed, and it is a constant struggle for him to control his rage. He can also use divine magic and can generate massive amounts of fire at will. If his claws are wet, however, he cannot ignite fire. He can still control existing fire and super-heat his claws, though. Aleksei fears his own potential, but when push comes to shove he will do whatever is necessary to protect those he loves, even at the cost of his own personal safety.
